A most decorative French 19th century Louis XVI st. Onyx and Ormolu mantel clock

About the Item

A unique and most decorative French 19th century Louis XVI st. Onyx and Ormolu mantel clock. This exceptional clock themed around the classical art is raised on ball feet below a two step white Onyx plinth supporting an Ormolu podium decorated with a palmette border. This stunning piece is centered by a white enameled clock face surrounded by a finely chased berried laurel bevel and displaying cobalt blue Roman numerals for the hours, as well as black Arabic numerals for minutes. On one side of the clock is an Ormolu sketchbook, sculpted portrait of who seems to be David, painting frame, and a crown of laurels. Sitting atop the clock is a young female artist covered by flowing robes while holding a paint brush in one hand and a palette in the other, gazing off to the side.
