The bronze tray, with raised foliate borders and two handles, supports the inkwell and includes a curved pen holder. It stands on small feet. Crafted from gilded bronze with finely detailed polychrome enamel in shades of turquoise, deep blue, red, yellow, and gold, the inkwell features a hinged lid and a scalloped base with Rococo-inspired curves. The Champlevé technique — in which enamel is applied into engraved recesses in the metal — results in a jewel-like surface full of intricate patterning and brilliant color.
