The White Pearl Pitcher II is a unique white glass sculpture with a lustrous finish by the Swedish artist Fredrik Nielsen. The artist literally freehand sculpts his glass to create these monumental artworks. This piece has been finished with car body spray paint.
Predominantly experimental, Nielsen’s artworks are made in defiance of what is perceived as perfect. This stellar powerful and conversational silvered bronze and sterling silver limited edition abstracted love lips or heart sculpture was commissioned by Christofle and designed and executed by a young Chinese woman artist named Xiao Hui Wang. This is the first time in Christofle history that a young Chinese artist, albeit a woman was asked to create this commission. It is signed and numbered on the bottom. It is signed with the artists name not terribly legible, then Christofle then 08/66 then France. The base is very heavy and is sterling silver. The top is silvered bronze and was lacquered. The base cannot be lacquered because it is sterling silver. We have not seen another one on line or anywhere else. The original monumental sculpture was first created on the occasion of the Shanghai Expo and stands elegantly in monumental form at the flagship Hilton in Singapore. This is a great symbol of how the masters of silver which are Christofle have transcended the art of the table to the art of the living in sensuality. This is stellar sensual and sexy sculpture that will elicit conversation. It creates reflections of magnitude from the surface and each angle is a different representation. This Steuben sculpture, titled Arcus, was designed in 1977 by British sculptor and designer Peter Aldridge (b.1947). Aldridge was graduated with distinction from London's Royal College of Art and worked as artist-in-residence at Steuben in 1977. A recipient of Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts, Aldridge went on to be appointed Steuben's Vice President and Creative Director. Aldridge began working as CEO of Scotland's prestigious North Lands Creative Glass center in 2007 before returning to New York in 2010, and currently serves on Steuben's Board of Trustees. His works are held in the permanent collections of London's Victoria & Albert Museum and the Corning Museum of Glass among other notable museums, and are also in private collections throughout the world.
This striking geometric Aldridge sculpture has been given design number 0217 and is made from cast, cut and polished lead glass. The angular piece has a multifaceted construction consisting of a series of triangles, squares and rectangles which have been expertly cut and polished.
The piece was included as one of a select number of nonjuried designs in the 1984 exhibition "50 Years on 5th - A Retrospective Exhibition of Steuben Glass." It is also worthy of note that an engraved version of this crystal sculpture titled "Peace Crystal" was given to late President Anwar El Sadat and late Prime Minister Menachem Begin...
