Artist Statement:
During the summers in Connecticut when I was a pre-teen, I lived for playing baseball. I grew up on a farm and had to work hard, but I always made time for baseball. I played everyday and sometimes even slept with my glove underneath my pillow. I dreamed of playing professionally for the New York Yankees. The only thing that dragged me away from playing baseball was an arts and craft’s class in my school’s summer program. On Tuesday afternoon, after lunch, baseball was on hold for arts and crafts. In my first class, they taught us how to make pot holders and build things with Popsicle sticks by gluing them together. It was so much fun. I guess this was the earliest telling of what was to unfold in the future years.
I continued to play semi-pro baseball until the age of 38. I was also into weightlifting and even placed in a national competition. Sports and art have always been my passions. I was willing to put sports on hold for my art, though. And sports have always influenced my artwork. My first great influence in art was my craft teacher in high school, Shirley Charron. I was not an “A” student by any means and I did not excel in math or science. Ms. Charron knew I wasn’t a great student and encouraged me to apply for art school at Silvermine College of Arts. The college was holding interviews and all I had to do was make an appointment and bring my artwork. I was excited to find out that they didn’t need to know my S.A.T. scores. So I met with Dean Bob Gray
and he liked my artwork. I became a student at the Silvermine College and received my Associate’s Degree from there. I went on to the Maryland Institute of Art where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree. I met several students from various backgrounds and different countries. I was fortunate for having great teachers and mentors along the way. Visiting artists were a big influence to me, as well. My college years helped greatly, keeping me out of the ‘real world’ and into the realm of creativity and free flowing ideas.
After receiving my Masters Degree from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1977. I stayed in Chicago. I became ‘so-to-speak’ a “Chicago” artist, living in lofts, dreaming the dreams of becoming known and reaching for the stars. I was still quite naïve at the age of 30. Luckily, I kept my day job as a cleaning man. I worked hard during those years after graduate school and still do 28 years later. During those 28 years, I tried out for the Chicago White Sox...

Per Hammarström is one of Sweden’s most highly regarded ceramicists. Per’s work doesn’t conform to the Swedish style of simplicity; instead he loves colour and texture, and exploring the multi-faceted function of ceramics. Per began his training at the Gustavsbergs Porcelain Studio in 1978, which is sadly no longer in existence. In 1984 he opened his own studio in Strängnäs, and has worked in this manner ever since.
Per’s work is characterised by organic forms and his own distinctive glazes, often in bright colours and strong contrasts. His work is unique, each piece starting out as a roughly thrown form, which is worked and transformed into bowls that are characterised by their delicacy and translucency. The organic form is embodied in the textured ceramics of Per. His works are either made from stoneware or porcelain.
The inspiration of much of his work is the sea, but he also draws from flora and fauna; and the changing of the seasons. The undulating colours of the sea, sky and land manifest themselves in his delicately crafted and vividly coloured ceramics. Through elaborate dining-ware and ceramic ornaments...

Also known as forget-me-not jugs or spirit jars, memory jugs are African American folk art objects that honor a loved one who has recently passed. Michael Thompson applies this tradition to his own practice, creating tactile assemblages of this and that. This original vintage Studio Pottery Object was designed by Gotlind Weigel produced in her own Studio in the 1980s in Mainz Germany. It is made of stoneware pottery ceramic and has a very unique black, blue, beige etc coloration and craquele surface structure due to aging effects. the bottom is marked with typical Weigel Producer signature and number 1180, indicating the year of production 1980s. a very collectible and very rare item of the Weigel Collection. the object has a very sculptural form and in its size of 24 x 16cm and a height of 21cm, it is very impressive.

Carlo Zauli is indisputably considered one of the most important sculptors of the twentieth century.
After having won the main awards in ceramics in the fifties, the early sixties saw him evolve towards a markedly sculptural interpretation of his Craft. In these years he developed his own artistic language, imbued with informal atmospheres intertwined with a harmonious but disruptive "naturalness": these are the years of growing international success. From 1958, the year in which the great high-reliefs were made for the Baghdad palace and the Kuwait State Printing Office, he saw his fame grow continually, up to the end of the seventies and eighties, throughout Europe, Japan , North America, where he realizes exhibitions and placed work permanently.
Carlo Zauli was born in 1926 in Faenza, where he died in 2002.
Instead of ornate platters and decorative vases, his work seemed to have emerged from the earth itself, with organic curves, jagged edges, cracks and fissures that reflected the artist’s keen connection with nature. It was this passion for the natural world that made his work revered in Japan.
Zauli first showed in the Japan as well in 1964 with the International Exhibition of Contemporary Ceramic Art that toured several top museums.
At the beginning of 1960s, Carlo Zauli enters an artistic period in which he could be defined 'a sculptor of vases.' He subjects his vases to a progressive process of geometrical synthesis that, combined with a sort of abnormal growth, turns them into true sculptures. Andrea Salvatori (Italy, 1975) is an internationally renowned visual artist working with the ceramic medium to realize often ironic and witty sculptures, sometimes involving a diverse selection of found objects, such as Murano glass vases, Meissen Porcelain miniatures or Ginori period ceramics sourced in flea markets around Europe. Salvatori’s works often begin with these items and proceed by the addition of elements masterfully created by the artist, generating an unexpected semantic shift. The result is unique, encompassing pop culture and kitsch aesthetics: a witty and effective way to turn reality upside-down and at the same time a powerful combination of exquisite craftsmanship and genuine irony.
Andrea Salvatori was born on 3 of March 1975 in Faenza (Ra), Italy; he has graduated at the Istituto d’arte for Ceramic in Faenza in 1995, and he then graduated with a Degree in Sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Bologna in 2000. During his studies, Andrea learned the secrets of ceramics from the creative duo Bertozzi & Casoni having worked as an apprentice in their studio for many years at the same way as during Renaissance artists learned their practice with their Masters. Since 1997 he had several individual and collective exhibitions. In 2009 he won the first prize at the 56th edition of the prestigious Premio Faenza, the International Contest of Contemporary Art Ceramics, for which he classified second in the prior edition.
