About the Item

A rare fiberglass with gold leaf sphere sculpture from the "Monadas" series by Mexican sculptor Yvonne Domenge. Conceived as an element for an astronomical exhibition, the sphere's surface was worked with rings and stains like the ones on planet Jupiter. The sculpture has a hole on one of its sides; according to the family, it is unclear if the hole was made by the artist. It has a steel rod support to be fixed in a base. The sphere is signed and dated 95 on the lower section. Yvonne Domenge (1949 - 2019) was a Mexican sculptor. She studied at the Corcoran School of Arts in Washington DC under Somsy Smuthart. She also was an apprentice of Kitzia Hofmann (Hélène Domenge) and Alberto Pérez Soria. She also studied Human Development at the Universidad Iberoamericana, which gave her an art teaching vocation for kids and adults. She was part of 50 individual exhibitions and more than 160 collective shows. Her work belongs to many important museum collections and public spaces.
