1920s Art Deco French Ceramic Shepherd Dog Statue by Charles Louis Eugène Virion

About the Item

Very pretty and styled Art Deco ceramic German shepherd dog sculpture in white crackled glaze. Charles Louis Eugène Virion (1865-1946) was a noted French animal sculptor and ceramicist. After the First World War, he made memorials for French municipalities and made a public statue called "Mother's love" depicting a dog and puppy, it is exhibited in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The clean geometric design of this pose makes it very special. Beautifully crackled glaze and hallmarked on the base by the sculptor. Virion studied sculpture in Paris under Jean-Paul Aubé and Charles Gauthier and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1886 until the 1930s. 1920s Czech Taxidermy Cow Tur Domácí Bos Taurus Hind Leg Bone Classroom Study
Located in Haarlem, NL
Very interesting early 20th Century Czech made taxidermy cow "Tur Domácí Bos Taurus" hind leg for classroom study, probably used at a University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The leg is at least a hundred years old, you can see by the way it is fixed together (the curly iron thread) and the surface ware of the real bones, it is smooth and yellowish. The iron and wood holder however is probably aded very recently (my guess is in the 80s 90s). Tur Domácí Bos Taurus (which is Czech and Latin for domestic bovine, or domestic cow) is an even-toed ungulate from the genus Bos of the bovine family...
