Antique Cabinet-Sized Naively Modeled Gilt Bronze Bear Sculpture

About the Item

A fine, antique cabinet sized sculpture of a bear. In gilt bronze. Modeled naively with the bear standing on all four feet, ears alert, and mouth open with tongue and (some) teeth visible. Having a stippled fur, hand chased facial features, and a parcel gilt finish. Stylistically similar to early 17th & 18th century rendered images of bears in both print and sculpture throughout Europe and Russia. Simply a wonderful antique bear bronze! Date: Early 20th Century or possibly earlier. Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with some rubbing to the patina, oxidation, some light edge wear, and some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Marks: Apparently unmarked. Measurements: Length: ca. 5 in. Width: ca. 1 7/8 in. Height: ca. 2 3/4 in. Items purchased from this dealer must delight you.
