About the Item

This vintage Art Deco-style greyhound sculpture is crafted from white ceramic with a glossy crackle glaze that lends it an aged, elegant appeal. The sleek, elongated form of the leaping greyhound, rendered with smooth curves and minimal detailing, captures a sense of dynamic motion typical of Art Deco aesthetics. The integrated base features an abstract wave-like pattern, enhancing the impression of speed and fluidity. Craquelure (French: craquelé; Italian: crettatura) is a fine pattern of dense cracking formed on the surface of materials. From 1923, Charles Lemanceau joined the “Art for All” movement launched by Prouvé, which allowed the democratization of art, particularly among the lower classes. He then worked for the Printemps Primavera art workshops, for the Saint-Clément earthenware factory as well as for the Sainte-Radegonde earthenware factory and even for the Louis Lourioux establishments... Charles Lemanceau is one of the many artists who did not sign all of their works.
