About the Item
Rare French Realistic Gorilla Diorama Sculpture dating from the second half of the 19th century, the period of the first depictions of this ape in Europe, shortly after its scientific discovery.
Probably from the diorama of the Natural History Museum in Paris (life-size sculpture).
Internal structure made of steel rods, straw braids, and papier-mâché, with an exterior covering of leather. A modeling technique used in museums and curiosity cabinets.
Very good condition, note some slight marks of age (see details).
