French Art Déco 'Pélican' Night Light / Pocket Watch Holder by Max Le Verrier

About the Item

A rare combination of night light & pocket watch holder modelled as a pelican with an open beak. Cast in 'fonte d'art' - a unique alloy developed by the foundry of Max Le Verrier as an alternative to bronze - and decorated in a deep green patina. Mounted on a variegated green marble base. Original bakelite globe holder. Signed *Le Verrier* in the metal. French, circa 1930. *Newly rewired to Australian Standards **E10 240V screw in globe fitting - 2 globes supplied. ***Max Le Verrier, was a French sculptor of the Art Deco period creating decorative art objects in bronze and an alloy often referred to as 'fonte d'art'. He opened his own foundry in Paris and also cast works created by other leading sculptors of the era.
