About the Item
Bronze resin sculpture depicting a Classical type female having long braided hair with her eyes closed. The piece is not signed. Acquired originally in London at the Fieldborne Galleries in 1979.
Mounted on a ebonized wood plinth.
Kormis’ artistic practice was varied and evolved over time, but his experiences as a prisoner of war created in him a lifelong preoccupation with memorialising and representing in sculptural form the emotional impact of captivity. This theme culminated in the 1960s in his Prisoner of War and Concentration Camp Victim memorial in Gladstone Park in London.
Dimensions: 5" x 5" plinth, overall 8 1/4" x 5 1/2" x 13 1/2" H
Condition: See detail photos. There is a small fissure to lower back that is of no consequence and mentioned only for accuracy. The base does have wear and scratches, wear to patina of sculpture to bottom of chin/jaw area however the presentation is serene and lovely.
