About the Item
A elegant D Brucciani plaster cast classical mask of a Putto
Domenico Brucciani was born in Lucca, Italy in 1815. He moved to London where he established a Gallery of Casts in Covent Garden by 1837. This business was one of many which emerged in the 19th century, when the copying of art became a lucrative trade across Europe.
The piece is in good order with some elderly repairs and surface cracks very much solid and complete, it also has its original iron hanging hoop. Stamped on the bottom D.Brucciani & Co London along with the casting number 50.
