A patinated bronze allegorical statue of a nude bacchante, the roman goddess of wine, in the manner of Clodion with right hand raised and holding a bunch of grapes, while the other rests on a trunk of an ancient vine. Likely cast by one of the major Paris foundries in the late 19th century. Unsigned.

A rare bronze of a bare chested sinewy Native American Indian warrior/ archer in a crouching position with one leg out for support and the other in a kneeling position as he is in throes of shooting an arrow skywards presumably hunting for a bird. The Indian is dressed in full traditional garb with patterned cotton woven loin cloth, a head band with a single feather. Buckskin leather frilly pants and moccasins. A patinated cast bronze statue of a classically draped Greek scholar sitting sideways on a Klismos chair with the trademark griphons as front leg supports, the subject holding a pen in his right hand and an open scroll on the other left signed "Moreau" inscribed on one side of the chair. There are no visible foundry marks.
Presumably the signature stands for Mathurin Moreau, a 19 Century French sculptor born 1822, and son of noted sculptor Jean Baptiste Moreau. In 1841, the 19 year old Mathirin entered the École des Beaux Arts in Paris and, the following year, won the Second Grand Prix de Rome with his sculpture Diodemus removing the Palladium. Several of his works remain on public display in Paris, among them on the facade of the Gare du Nord...
