About the Item

This stunning cast bronze figurine is made in a rare and original interpretation of Degas' famous work - "Little Dancer of Fourteen Years" (French: La Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans). The bronze sculpture was made in the Art Deco style in a two-color palette of dark and green patina, in the first half of the 20th century. Size app.: 25 cm (roughly 9.8 in) high, 9 cm (roughly 3.5 in) wide, 7 cm (roughly 2.8 in) deep. Very good condition, just minimal age and usage wear. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition. In person actual item may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 1.7 kg is going to measure some 3 kg packed for shipmed. Sculpture begun c. 1880 by Edgar Degas of a young student of the Paris Opera Ballet dance school, a Belgian named Marie van Goethem. The arms are taut, and the legs and feet are placed in a ballet position akin to fourth position at rest, and there is tension in the pose, an image of a ballerina being put through her paces, not posing in an angelic way. Her face is – "contorted, people thought it was a deliberate image of ugliness, but you could also say it's the image of a sickly gawky adolescent who is being made to do something she doesn't totally want to do."
