French 19th Century Patinated Bronze Statue, after Charles Gabriel Lemire

About the Item

A charming and very elegant French mid 19th Century patinated bronze statue of a cherub, after Charles Gabriel Lemire. The statue is raised by a rectangular Rouge Griotte marble base with a concave top mottled border. Above is a sweet winged cherub, sitting on a rock, one hand on his bow and the other holding the string, attempting to put it on the bow. Wonderful and all original patina throughout. Charles-Gabriel Lemire (1741-1827) Born in Lunéville, Lemire was a Parisian sculptor. Lemire participated at the Universal Exhibition in Paris, from 1808-1819, and received a medal in 1808. His sculptures were commissioned by renowned noblemen and can be seen in the Musée de Tours, Musée de Marseille and the Louvre.
