About the Item

A stunning Italian 19th century terra cotta statue of David has slain Goliath. The statue is raised by its original circular Terra Cotta base with richly sculpted fruit amidst finely detailed faces and acanthus leaves. The statue displays a finely carved wrap-around berried laurel band where David stands. The handsome David wears sandals and proudly stands with one foot on the defeated Goliath's head. David holds his sword in his right hand and a rock in his left hand. He is covered by a leaf and displays a wonderfully executed facial expression. Exceptional attention to detail in his hair and hat which displays a fine foliate band. Beautiful original warm patina throughout.
