About the Item
This superb, large, and highly decorative late 19th-century Italian naïve majolica pottery figure is hand modelled in clay, which is painted and glazed in bold colours.
It depicts the traditional figure of Pulcinella, a clown-like entertainer from 17th-century entertainment and puppetry.
The male figure is humorously dressed in a bright and flamboyant performance costume, which includes a high peaked hat and a partial leather face mask. He is holding an early stringed instrument, eager to entertain.
This decorative piece is in good original condition.
