Metallic Silver-Black Ceramic TOTEM, Chalice Top on Long Tripod Legs, Hand Built

$975

About

Metallic silver-black ceramic TOTEM, hand built by Artist Helena Starcevic. Part of an ongoing study of the totemic form, referred to as Modern Totems or Modern Primitives. The creamy dark satin silver glaze still shows the hand's touch to the clay. An open Chalice cup on top is attached to an elongated hollow center form, set upon tripod legs. Artist's signature chop underneath. These sculptures reference the human form, the natural world, and sometimes furniture! They are beautiful and strong as a solo statement piece, but can be grouped in sets of 2, 3 or even 10 for a very creative impact.

About The Maker

Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio.   Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
