Oceanic Hand Carved Wooden Sculpture of a Mother and Child

About the Item

Fantastic Faces on this hand carved tribal wood sculpture of a mother carrying her child most likely Oceanic but possibly African as well. This tribal art child's face is so captivating and the sculpture is quite exceptional. The wood is a dark ebony with some exposed natural wood showing thru. Unsigned. Exposure to tribal arts have provided inspiration to many modern artists, such as Expressionists, Cubists, and Surrealists, notably Surrealist Max Ernst or Pablo Picasso, who stated that "primitive sculpture has never been surpassed."
