About the Item

Sculptural 18th century Italian figure of Christ and metal sword with large red and white crystal quartz clusters and phantom quartz. The figure of Christ was originally part of a crucifix from a church in Tuscany. This piece is based on John 19:34 which reads, “Instead, Jesus’ side was pierced with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.” It was a featured piece exhibiting with Il Sacro Nell’Arte or “The Sacred in Art” in the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, March 2025. Il Sacro Nell’Arte is an exhibition that works to bring artists closer to the sacred through artistic depictions. This year, the theme centered around “water” in scripture. The exhibition was held from the 22nd to 30th of March 2025 in the Chiostro Grande of the Basilica della SS Annunziata, the main Marian sanctuary in Florence. The piece is put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she created the piece and the period shows that the Italian figure of Christ is originally 18th century. Together the Christ and sword artifacts and the natural Crystal Quartz create a figurative, contemporary work of historic significance.
