Tea 1750 Collection Surf Board Replica by AMBER x IÑIGO CALLEJA

About the Item

Tea 1750 Collection Surf Board Replica by AMBER x IÑIGO CALLEJA Dimensions: W 180 x D 50 x H 10 cm. Materials: Old Beams and nails, epoxy case. Polished thoroughly. Iñigo Calleja is an engineer, designer and soulful maker born in Spain. He landed his first graduate job at European engineering leader BMW in Munich and developed a successful career in different companies that took his places all around the world. He found his inner entrepreneur living in Sydney and self developed his woodworking skills by chance and need. Once he realized he could build almost anything that he sketched he knew were about to get really exciting. In 2017 he decided to lay roots in coastal Cádiz, a city founded in the year 1000BC that hosts a breathtaking history and constructions that have seen human civilizations grow. Iñigo feels an unstoppable attraction for rare timbers he finds in many derelict buildings that were built centuries ago that are being demolished or renovated and becomes attracted to the stories those fine timbers treasure within. “The century old beams that we salvage from historic buildings in the tri-millenary city of Cádiz have always been around since our beginnings and are essentially our trademark. We were lucky to recover a batch of roof rafters from the old British Embassy in Calle Sagasta nr.1 whose construction dates back to 1750! A time when the Port of Cádiz was the main harbor of mainland Spain, enjoying the virtual monopoly of trade with the Americas. The common purpose of the designs in this collection is to achieve a high end looking sculptural and beautiful piece whilst exposing cracks, wrinkles and other superficial imperfections that these structural beams have garnered over their colossal career. By doing so we honor the lives of all people and characters that have dwelled this magnificent building over its almost 300 years of existence.”
