About the Item

Terracotta sculpture signed Francisco Luque. Francisco Luque Born in 1948, at the beginning of the 1970s he began his studies at the School of Applied Arts of Córdoba and began to participate in group exhibitions in the local environment of Córdoba and Jaén. His training is fundamentally self-taught, combining teaching tasks as a teacher in his hometown with a remarkable artistic activity. In 1992 he took an engraving course that allowed him to expand his work. Luque has a long exhibition career and a tight resume. Some of his works are part of permanent exhibitions in important galleries in Madrid, Valencia, Seville, La Coruña, Murcia, Pamplona and Córdoba. His work can be regularly admired in both group and solo exhibitions. His sculptural style is based on an ideal concept of human beauty in which forms are embodied through a peculiar concept of volume and space. His work usually deals with the nude or the female figure. Their Venuses are little stylized and exuberant. Exuberant, exuberant and resounding proportions can be seen in his works, which the artist models by imprinting them with his own stamp that denotes a spirit overflowing with humanity. According to some critics3, this own style is inspired by the new trends of an aesthetic little related to classical or academic models. Clearly influenced by the pictorial work of Peter Paul Rubens, his sculptures depict women with exuberant forms, brimming with sensuality and carnality, in which warmth is transmitted through form. The disproportion in his human figures, far from the canons of conventional beauty, brings him closer to a boterism full of tenderness and serenity. The closed brushstroke, with more defined figures and contours that characterizes the work of Fernando Botero, becomes Francisco Luque's sculptures in soft shapes and warped curves, which enclose in themselves the feminine spirit, the main motif of the author's work. . Work and recognitions "Maternity" His work has received numerous awards and recognitions (First Prize in the Valdepeñas National Painting and Sculpture Contest; First Prize for Sculpture at the XXV Anniversary of the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Pozoblanco, Córdoba; Second Prize for Sculpture at the X Villa de Rota International Prize, Cádiz; and Honorable Mention in the Club 63 Sculpture Award, Jaén; among others). His works are permanently exhibited at the Museo Diocesano Bellas Artes de Córdoba, at the Ruiz Mateos Museum in the city of Rota, Cádiz, at the Provincial Council of Córdoba, at the National Library in Madrid and at the Santaella City Hall, among others. 4 An example of the monumental urban work of Francisco Luque can be seen on the promenade of his hometown, Santaella. The fountain. Polychrome terracotta. 20th century, after CARRIER-BELLEUSE
Located in Madrid, ES
The fountain. Polychrome terracotta. 20th century, following models of CARRIER-BELLEUSE, AlbertErnest (Aisne, 1824-Sèvres, 1887). The figure shows a boy, lying down and almost totally naked, with his head enhanced by a golden leaf crown. It is shown with a shell (with touches in gold), taking water from a pitcher next to it, thus recalling the allegories of the rivers or of the birth of the same of Ancient Rome. It is necessary to compare the present work with the one entitled “La Source” by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, preserved, for example, at the Art Institute of Chicago or the Portland Museum of Art (of which there are a number of variants, changing the characters and the material used). Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse was a French sculptor and draftsman trained with David d'Angers and at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. He achieved international recognition from his participation in the Salon of the French Artists of 1861 (Third Medal), reaching outstanding works such as various busts of...
