Unique, Tall Ceramic Sculpture - Bengt Berglund - Gustavsberg 1963

About the Item

A unique sculpture by Bengt Berglund at Gustavsbergs Studio, Sweden designed in 1963 to the debut exhibition at the PUB department store in Stockholm. The sculpture is 72 cm (28.8") high and 16 cm (6.4") in diameter at the base. It is incised with the signature below and date below. The sculpture is in excellent condition except that it seems to have a repair around the neck. It is very hard to notice but you can see it if you look close. This is a very good sculpture by Bengt, you can see a photo from the exhibition at PUB in 1963 where you see the sculpture in front of the artist himself. Bengt Berglund was a student at Gustavsberg's own workshop school between 1954-56 while he was also studying at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack). During this time, he threw pottery for Berndt Friberg, becoming a very skilled potter. However, it is far from traditional stoneware for which he will become known; Bengt creates his own unique style with experimental ceramics. Bengt Berglund had his first exhibition at the department store PUB in Stockholm in 1963 and has since had many exhibitions. He is represented in several museums.
