About the Item

There are many characteristics typical of Spanish 17th century silverware. The economic situation of the time and the measures of austerity caused, above all, the elimination of statuettes and reliefs in the works (except examples of great importance). As in the 16th century, opaque enamel was often used, often applied to small plates. Often, along the proto-baroque and baroque, the silver was gilded and the silver could be combined with silver in its color. The absence of contrasting and local marks at the time was due to the weakening of the marking law, the reduction in the number of artificers from populations that were not the capital (Madrid centralized production), the evasion of many masters of the Payment required for it, etc. The great variety of types and the originality of the works realized during this century, well-known like one of the most important, could have given rise to works like the present, besides influencing outside the borders.
