About the Item
A pretty 19th century Majolica cache pot, decorated in shades of green and brown, and featuring the vivid colouration, whimsical shapes and high-relief sculpture typical of the style. Art Nouveau in design, this glazed earthenware pot would historically have been used to cycle the display of plants indoors and outside throughout the year, allowing them to be grown in their weathered, utilitarian pots when outdoors, but still displayed most elegantly when brought in to the house. Large enough to contain a good-sized houseplant, or as a decorative feature in its own right, this eye-catching piece of ceramic art would be an ideal gift for a collector of Majolica pottery.
