Set of Three Silver Nested Brass Planters
Located in Yonkers, NY
A set of three vintage Indian nested vessels made of silver over brass with abundant repoussé floral décor. Delight in the allure of this set of three vintage Indian nested vessels, a captivating display of cultural artistry and intricate craftsmanship. These vessels, skillfully crafted from silver over brass, epitomize the timeless charm of Indian metalwork and serve as a testament to the incredible attention to detail of their creators. Each vessel in the set is a marvel of repoussé work, a traditional technique that involves hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. The vessels are adorned with abundant floral motifs, each flower and leaf painstakingly crafted to create a lush, textural landscape on the surface. The silver overlay on the brass base offers a stunning contrast, further accentuating the exquisite floral décor. The vessels come in three graduated sizes, adding visual interest and offering versatile usage. The smallest measures 7 inches in diameter and 9.5 inches in height, the medium-sized vessel is 8 inches in diameter and 12 inches in height, and the large vessel measures 9 inches in diameter and 13 inches in height. This varying dimension adds an appealing sense of rhythm to the set. A standout feature of these vessels is the lateral rings, ingeniously crafted to function as handles. This utilitarian element, melded seamlessly with the decorative charm, enhances the usability without compromising the aesthetic appeal. This set of three vintage Indian nested vessels is an excellent choice for those seeking to infuse their space with a dash of historical elegance, intricate craftsmanship, and cultural richness. Their floral beauty...

Large Burmes Brass, Copper, Silver Inlaid Ceremonial Bowl with Avatars of Vishnu
By Rajhastani
Located in North Hollywood, CA
Large Asian Burmese brass ceremonial bowl with silver and copper inlaid with the ten Hindu Avatars of Vishnu. Fine example of Tanjore work, this brass bowl that has been overlaid with alternating copper and silver chased plaques, with high quality in detail executed in mixed metal repoussé with contrasting patination, showing Hindu deities. The base is engraved with a lotus flower motif. (This type of work is known as Tanjore work, after the south Indian city where much of this work was executed.) The depictions on the main plaques are believed to relate to those seen carved in relief on rock on the façade off the Great Temple (Brihadisvara) in Tanjore. A southern Indian magnificent silver and copper inlaid vase, 19th century Tapered and chased body made of copper inlaid with beaded bands and with the ten avatars of Vishnu: 1. Matsya (the fish) 2. Koorma (the tortoise) 3. Varaha (the boar) 4. Narasimha (the human-lion – shown on this bowl as a lion-man figure about to devour a human victim.) 5. Vamana (the dwarf) 6. Parasurama (the angry man – presented on this bowl as a figure with an axe, a bow and an arrow.) 7. Rama (the perfect man, king of Ayodha) 8. Krishna (the divine statesman – shown here as Krishna on a cobra throne...

A Large Indian Urli, c. 1910
Located in Chicago, IL
This shallow bronze bowl is an open fire cooking vessel known as urli or uruli, used throughout southern India for preparing ayurvedic medicines and cooking large quantities of food for gatherings and ritual offerings. Cast of bell bronze using the lost wax method, the basin features two loop handles, a constricted neck banded with simple ring molding, and a rounded underside. It has been fitted with a metal stand. Over a century of use has resulted in a darkly patinated surface finish, with some verdigris oxidation on the interior. A full-size specimen, this bronze vessel is wonderful as a tabletop centerpiece...
