About the Item

Pair of 19th Century Capodimonte Porcelain Urns with Mythological Reliefs A striking pair of monumental 19th century Capodimonte porcelain vases, richly decorated with mythological scenes in high relief and finished with dramatic sea-creature handles. A highly decorative pair of large Capodimonte porcelain covered vases, each measuring 45 cm (17.7 in) in height. These impressive urns are richly hand-painted in vibrant polychrome enamels and highlighted with gilt accents. The bodies are adorned in high relief with elaborate neoclassical scenes of mythological figures in landscapes, surrounded by ornate borders and floral motifs. Each vase features dramatic sculptural handles modeled as stylized sea creatures, adding a bold and theatrical element. The domed covers are topped with floral finials, while the square bases are decorated with gilt scrollwork. Marked to the underside with the crowned “N” Capodimonte mark. Italy, late 19th century. Both vases remain highly decorative and present beautifully despite some restorations and minor losses. The lids are fixed in place and cannot be removed. One floral finial has a small chip loss, the other lid has been broken in the past and carefully restored. In addition, one vase shows a small chip to the corner of the foot. These restorations and imperfections do not detract from the impressive scale, rich polychrome decoration, and striking presence of the pair. Dimensions Height: 45 cm / 17.7 in Width: approx. 22 cm / 8.7 in (at widest point) Late 19th Century Condition Lids fixed in place, not removable One finial with small chip loss One lid previously broken and restored One foot with a small corner chip Otherwise good antique condition, wear consistent with age
