About the Item

Three fine quality "Nippon" AUTHENTIC vases from the Meiji dynasty; Japan, Circa 1910. All are in excellent and all original condition with no repairs and no restoration, chips, or touch up of any kind. They are all hand painted with moriage accents to two of them; indicative and representative of the prime era of fine quality Japanese porcelain makers during the turn of the 19th century, say 1891 through 1921. Colors are crisp and not faded. The stein or mug is particularly difficult to come by. Measurements of each are below: 1) Hand painted Nippon Stein with white enamel interior; subject matter consists of two deer in a heavily wooded forest in brown tones with moriage applique string raised relief to the top and bottom perimeters and moriage beaded decor to the handle.. All very well done. Maker's mark is on the underneath (see images). Circa 1910. Dimensions: 5 1/2" high x 5 3/4" deep x 4 1/4" wide 2) Double handled "urn like" small vase with white enamel interior and a moriage applied duck as the main subject, who is wandering around in a pasture of greenery. Also moriage applied beading to the handles. Excellent quality especially to the hand painted muted colors to the scenery. Maker's mark appears on the underneath (see images). Circa 1905. Dimensions: 6 1/4" high x 3 3/8" wide x 3 1/4" deep 3) Bowl shaped two handled bud vase with a hand painted green tree in the foreground and river and purple mountains to the rear. The bowl rests on a three pedestal gold painted leg base. Note maker's mark on the underneath. Circa 1895. Dimensions: 3 3/4" high x 3 3/8" diameter Note: Moriage is a decorating technique that was used predominantly during the Nippon and Meiji period in Japan (1891-1921) by fine quality porcelain makers, which incorporated the use of applied premium clay subjects to embellish the decor and present a three dimensional appearance. Note: I am a second generation antiques dealer and have been dealing in fine quality decorative arts, furniture, jewelry, and paintings for more than 50 years; I am also a member of several prestigious antique associations. Thus, I am well qualified to inspect and evaluate the products I offer for sale and I guarantee this to be authentic and as I have described.

Victorian Porcelain Spittoon, circa 1880 by Imari, Japan
Located in Incline Village, NV
The mark on the underneath (see image) indicates that this spittoon is of Japanese Imari porcelain, manufactured circa 1880, and made specifically for the American market for the preponderance of bars and saloons at that time. These were popular from 1865 to the turn of the century; this is a particularly fancy and elaborate example. Note the copious and highly detailed and beautiful floral decoration to the inside of the upper portion of the spittoon; pretty fancy for something meant for spit and saliva! Fantastic and all original condition with no cracks, no chips and very bright paint in sharp colors of blue rust and pink, and meticulously painted in a floral pattern. Several of these would have been “stationed” in strategic places within a saloon. This is a wonderful piece of porcelain, and quality item of saloon and Western United States history...
