About the Item

Antique pottery table lamp made by Michael Andersen & Son of Bornholm with penguins. 5 Standing penguins around the core of the lamp. A very recognizable Michael Andersen glaze to the surface. In great condition for its age with very little signs of wear and no chipping or cracking to the pottery. Bakelite bulb holder with on/off switch. An absolute joy to behold. Michael Andersen has been delivering sublime Danish design and ceramics since 1890 with dedicated collectors all over the world from New York to Tokyo. Michael Andersen (1859-1931) was trained as a ceramicist with Lauritz Hjorth in Rønne on Bornholm. Michael Andersen took over in 1890 Th. Stibolt's ceramic company in Rønne and continued it in his own name. The ceramic company can be dated all the way back to 1771. In 1935, Michael Andersen wins a distinguished gold medal at the World Exhibition in Brussels (Exposition Universelle et Internationale de Bruxelles) for his glaze, and is then rightly referred to as the master of glaze. Lampshade not included. Re wired with twisted black cloth flex. Can be fitted with an EU UK or US plug.
