About the Item

A rare and monumental vase made by Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek between 1910 and 1917. Bridging the final flourish of Dutch Art Nouveau (Nieuwe Kunst) and the emerging order of early Art Deco, this piece captures a pivotal moment in European ceramic artistry—making it a highly compelling addition for collectors of 20th-century decorative arts. Designed by Klaas Vet, the factory’s co-founder and artistic lead, it belongs to the sought-after Lindus series.

The surface is richly hand-painted with stylized floral motifs—central rosettes, dotted lotus-like leaves, and symmetrical vinework—framed by ornamental medallions influenced by Ottoman and Persian ceramic traditions. Executed in a palette of deep cobalt, ochre, emerald, and ivory matte glazes, the design reflects the height of the Dutch Nieuwe Kunst movement while anticipating the symmetry and structure of early Art Deco. The Lindus line marked the factory’s most ambitious and labor-intensive work—crafted in limited numbers during its peak artistic years. While most surviving examples measure between 25 and 40 cm, this 59 cm form is exceptionally rare. Original base markings include the “Arnhem Holland” stamp with rooster logo, the hand-painted “Lindus” decor name, and shape number “281,” all consistent with production during the factory’s golden period between 1910 and 1917. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE BASE OF THE VASE. SEE PHOTOS FOR DETAILED REFERENCE.
