About the Item

A ceramic vase with a lovely blue/black and brown glaze designed by Gunnar Nylund at Rörstrand, the vase is 18,5 cm (7,4") high and 11 x 6.5 cm (4.4" x 2.6") in diameter. It´s in excellent condition except from some minor marks from the production on the base why it is marked as 2nd quality. Gunnar Nylund is born in Paris but moved to Denmark and started to work at Bing & Gröndahl porcelain factory in Denmark and after that he started Saxbo ceramics in Denmark and worked there for many years. After that he became the artistic leader at Rörstrand in Sweden and worked there between 1931-1955. Gunnar Nylund is represented at a several Swedish and international museums. He is one of the most well know ceramicists in Scandinavia during the 20th century.

Stoneware vase in a clean form by Gunnar Nylund, the undulating rim softens the form. Vivacious blue glaze with purple streaks. Gunnar Nylund was one of the most influential ceramicists and designers of the Swedish mid-century period. He was Rörstrand’s creative leader from 1931 until 1949 and as such propelled the artistic work at the factory and served as mentor to younger artists, among them Carl-Harry Stålhane and Hertha Bengtsson.
