About the Item

Bohemian Ceramic Vase Manufactured by Amphora Riessner Stellmacher & Kessel, Turn-Teplitz circa 1895 "ivory porcelain", ceramics, colorfully glazed, enamel painting, gold painting The female figure was a central theme of Art Nouveau and was also often used by the artists of the Amphora manufactory. The work of the designers was strongly influenced by the very floral and stylized French Art Nouveau. Especially the poster art of Alphonse Mucha and Paul Berthon from Paris was a significant source of artistic inspiration for the Bohemian ceramists in Turn Teplice around 1900. Under this influence, a large number of objects with female motifs were created, ranging from purely decorative vases to allegorical art treasures. Amphora was striving to create high-quality objects and therefore developed their own, patented, type of ceramic known as “ivory porcelain”. Using this particularly light type of ceramic material, they were able to create stunningly delicate and elegant vases and other decorative vessels. Withstanding the test of time, these high-quality objects are now widely considered to be valuable works of art in their own right, not solely decorative items. Marked with "AMPHORA" in the ellipse, "Turn-Teplitz Bohemia RSTK", impressed model number "634" and "AH" (artist monogram); Bib.: Richard L. Scott (ed.), Ceramics from the House of Amphora 1890-1915, Sidney/Ohio 2004, p. 85.
