About the Item
A large and stunning Art Nouveau peacock feather design art pottery vase decorated in iridescent glazes attributed to renowned French ceramic artist Clement Massier (1845-1917) dating from the latter end of the 19th century. The tall funnel shaped earthenware vase is heavily potted standing on a wide round unglazed foot rim with a slightly recessed base. The lower body tapers slightly to form a wide skirted body with impressed thumb prints to four sides with a long narrowing funnel shaped neck with a bud shaped top and simple round opening. The body of the vase is decorated in a golden iridescence with tones of red, green and blue stylized peacock feather patterning to two sides. The intensity of color varies around the body of the vase giving various tonality to the pattern which is brighter in some places and darker in others. The vase has some indistinct marks to the base and was acquired as by Clement Massier and certainly reflective of his style and quality.
Acquired from the UK Art Market.
