About the Item
This is the heavily textured sung-glazed stoneware vase by Danish experimental artist Bodil Marie Nielsen.
It comes in a brutalist, brick colored, sung-glazed design.
It has the form of a mushroom with tapering stem crowned with a globular top. The top is partly glazed in white and perforated with carved holes forming flowers.
It is stamped “BODIL MARIE NIELSEN” and ”DENMARK” on the underside in the clay mass.
____________________
Bodil Marie Nielsen was a Danish artist and ceramicist.
She was the only female member of the leading Danish artist group of the 1960s, "Den Eksperimenterende Kunstskole".
Her ceramic works can be seen as part craft and part sculpture.
She was a member of Eks-Skolen, which was founded in 1961. It was responsible for many of the Danish avant-garde initiatives of the 60s.
Bodil Marie Nielsen belonged to a generation of female Danish artists who, despite an undeniable talent, came to stand in the shadow of their male colleagues during that period.
