About the Item

A early 20th century ceramic vase from Bunzlau. Motif - old peacock's eye - sponge decoration, concentric dots in different colours Ceramics with this decoration received the gold medal for cadmium- and lead-free crockery at the 1905 World Exhibition in London. Bunzlau ceramics are ceramic products from the Lower Silesian town of Bunzlau (now Bolesławiec in Polish) and the surrounding area. The ceramics production in Bolesławc dates back to the 16th century - even then, richly decorated and diverse utensils and artefacts were produced. Later, the potters joined together to form a guild, partly to ensure quality. The number of potteries was limited to five. This restriction was lifted in 1762 - but even then, Bunzlau was already important throughout Europe. The clay mined in the Bunzlau-Naumburg clay basin was fired at up to 1260 degrees Celsius and was considered to be high-fired earthenware when fired. Bunzlau potteries great economic importance lasted until the end of the Second World War. Dimensions Height: 22 cm / 8.66 inch. Diameter: 12 cm / 4.72 inch. Weight: 1,08 kg
