About the Item

Imposing Longwy vase from the Majolica series, produced from the late 19th to the early 20th century, notably in the Primavera workshops. This particular model is made in a deep turquoise blue, cast after an antique Chinese bronze. In great condition, the only flaws to be noted are small chips including one partially restored around the base. Stamped Longwy signature underneath. Height 50 cm, total diameter 39 cm, neck diameter 26 cm, weight 7.42 kg. "The "Majolica" term Longwy is a fine earthenware covered with a lead glaze colored mostly in shades of turquoise blue, green, ocher ... While in its original definition, it refers to Italian or Hispanic earthenware, in a spirit of rebirth, which are dipped in a bath of enamel stanniferous (tin-based). The main source of inspiration in Asia because its reliefs are perfectly adapted to the forms and the quality of the details which accentuate the relief molded by the projecting parts which remain clear. The shapes of these creations are often taken from bronze molds of oriental inspiration. There are also majolica with decorations under enamel and sometimes enhanced on the glaze with gold. Some pieces are ennobled by a bronze fitting. There will be majolica during the "Art Deco" period with the creations of the "Primavera" workshop."
