About the Item
This is a Japanese Bizen ware. It is called Ko-Bizen.
It is estimated to have been made in the Edo period (18th century), and has a very powerful presence.
Ko-Bizen refers to Bizen ware made mainly in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture.
The rugged and powerful texture of the clay is appealing.
The surface of this jar shows a fire blister, and the accidental shape created by nature gives it a one-of-a-kind character.
Like a record of the dialogue between fire and clay, its skin has many expressions.
Although it is not a freestanding shape, it gives the impression of quiet movement and leaves a strong impression in the space.
It is in excellent condition, with no cracks or chips, and it is hard to believe that it is more than 200 years old.
Just by placing it gently in a quiet place, an ancient Japanese sense of beauty will pervade the space.
It is a rare piece that breathes the spirit of Wabi-Sabi.
