About the Item
Many are the different styles of glass that are created on the island of Murano. Blown, sculpted or molded glass is used to create any kind of object, ranging from bowls and vases to sculptures and chandeliers. Colour, then, can add another twist, rendering the nuumber of possible combinations virtually infinite.
The present object is a stunning, massive and extremely well preserved vase in molded "Sommerso" glass, a technique invented by famed designer Flavio Poli in the first half of the Twentieth century and later used by several different designers and makers, famously including Seguso, who tied his name to these amazing works.
The "Sommerso" technique consists in using two or more layers of differently coloured glass, one of which is usually clear, to achieve a finished piece where the coloured glass seems to float, as if it were submerged in the clear one.
What's particularly special and attractive about this piece, apart from the optimal state of preservation, is the unusual size - more than 30cm in height - and its massive weight, giving an impression of solidity that interestingly contrasts with the delicacy of the tones and shape.
It is well preserved, shows no cracks, chips or dents but only a pleasant, light and even patina from age, and is unsigned and unmarked.
