Oriental Flowering Hawthorn Cloisonne Double Gourd Vase
Located in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire
A very fine and stylish antique oriental, Chinese attributed, cloisonne double gourd vase dating from the latter 19th century. The vase stands on a flat brass base with a wide round base, pinched waist and narrow round upper section with a funnel style top with a flat metal rim. The body of the vase is decorated with a mixture of flowering shrubs dominated with flowering hawthorn incorporating a butterfly to one side. The continuous scenes are decorated in colored enamels against a bright turquoise ground and set between formal borders around the foot, the pinched centre and top of the vase. The vase is typically not marked but is a striking and very stylish example.

Two Late Qing Dynasty Cloisonné Enamel and Gilt Bronze Vases
Located in London, GB
The enamel vases in this pair are of ‘garlic head’ form, each sitting on a four-leg, four scrolled foot wooden stand. The vases are of tripartite form. Each vase features a flared neck, an ovoid body, and a pinched stem, and each includes four gilt bronze (ormolu) medallions fashioned into reticulated cloud scroll patterns. Glimpsed through the reticulated medallions of each vase is a smaller, nestled vase, similarly decorated to the external shell. The body of each vase presents a rich blue enamel ground onto which cloisonné enamel motifs, bounded within gold enamel wire, are worked. The motifs are traditional, ranging from lotus scrolls and lotus flowers to ruyi heads, and are executed in a bold green, red, yellow, and pink palette. Upon the neck of each vase are mounted two gilt bronze elephant...

Dimensions: W 16.5 x D 14.5 x H 25 cm.
Materials: Terracotta, slip and enamel.
Eguzkiñe Egaña Corta studied advertising and for more than 20 years has worked as a graphic designer. About 12 years ago, surrounded by a completely digital world, she felt the need to create with her hands and it is from there that she took up her drawings and illustrations and began to create with ceramics. She has completed a Master’s degree at the University of the Basque Country: “Ceramics; art and function” and combines her work as a designer and illustrator with contemporary artistic creation. She also teaches ceramics classes at the municipal school of Zarautz, a city in the Basque Country where she lives. She feels the need to explore the relationship between identity and self-knowledge. Work with the concepts; interior, exterior, return, connect, ancestral and artisanal, establishing a relationship between us and our environment, as well as between us and our ancestors, either emotionally, empathetically or through objects that somehow transport us to a hypothetical place in the past, both for its aesthetics and for the ways in which they have been created. Human beings are containers of desires, fears, expectations. Sometimes it is necessary to empty ourselves of everything that clutters the mind. On many occasions the artist works with turned containers...
