About the Item

Place this colorful antique container by on your kitchen counters to bring a rustic, historic touch to your kitchen, laundry room, or mud room! Crafted in England in 1951, this pail is stamped with the mark "F.F.&S. J.B. 12602 / W^D 1951." This is a common marking on pieces made by the historic English manufacturer, F. Francis & Sons, who stamped the date on each of the pieces they made. This sweet container features one large handle which goes over the top and connects on the sides, and two smaller handles on either side of the original removable top; the container is decorated throughout with hand painted floral and leaf motifs in a green, yellow, and blue palette. The fancy metal carrying container is in excellent condition and is adorned with a rich patinated painted finish. Versatile, the decorative pot could also be used as a planter to hold dried flowers, or place on top of kitchen cabinets for the ultimate country look! F. Francis and Sons was a manufacturer of tin boxes and steel drums that was founded in 1869 in the Greenwich Borough of London, on the banks of the River Thames. By 1914, they made all sorts of metal products, iron drums and kegs for oils, chemicals etc., steel barrels, fancy tins, advertising tablets and trays, stamped re-tinned hollow ware, tuns and cans for paints, varnishes, enamels etc. By that time the factory employed over 700 people. The factory was a bustling site of industry for over 100 years. Measures: 9.25" W x 8" D x 14.75" H.
