About the Item
Pair of very large malachite and ormolu vases
French, 20th Century
Height 140cm, diameter 91cm
Of impressive size and quality, the vases are made from vibrant green malachite and ormolu. Of Campana form, the body of each vase is adorned with a twin pair of beautifully cast ormolu handles. In the shape of classical male bearded masks, their design complements other ormolu detailing.
Stepped square malachite bases stand atop ormolu lion paw feet. The vases are mounted on a further malachite plinth, framed by ormolu mounts, and standing on four bun feet.
The naturally occurring pattern on the malachite, paired together with the elegant appearance of ormolu make these vases an exceptionally fine and sophisticated addition to the appropriate interior or exterior space.
