About the Item

A rare and beautiful art nouveau vase with amazing glaze. Made by Anders Teodor Andersson in his factory in Ystad, Sweden, 1923-1929. Fair condition. I has a chip to the top rim (pictured). Signed 'A.T.A.' by the artist and impressed 'YSTAD'. Anders Teodor Andersson (1884–1969) was a Swedish ceramist known for his contributions to early 20th-century Swedish ceramics. Born in Höganäs, he trained as a potter at the Höganäsbolaget's pottery factory and furthered his education in Helsingborg in 1913. In 1915, he joined Ekelunds Marbel- och Porslinsfabrik in Ystad, initially working as a glazer and potter before advancing to workshop manager. In 1923, facing financial difficulties after World War I, Andersson purchased the factory and rebranded it as Ystads Nya Stenkärls- och Keramikfabrik. Under his leadership, the company shifted focus from porcelain to stoneware and earthenware, producing decorative items such as figurines, flowerpots, and the renowned Ystad mug. Despite his efforts, the company faced economic challenges and was declared bankrupt in 1931. Nevertheless, Andersson's legacy in Swedish ceramics endures, with his works remaining of interest to collectors and enthusiasts of Swedish design history.
