About the Item
A superb antique Sowerby Gryphon vase in an unusual colourway marbled slag glass molded with three chained swans with lion paws dating from around 1880. The vase is crisply molded with excellent detail in muted and bold colors. The vase combines tones of brown and white in an agate effect finish. Often referred to as the 'Gryphon Vase' unmarked versions are sometimes attributed to Edward Moore however the detail and quality are more in common with Sowerby and marked versions we have handled in the past.
Provenance: acquired in the UK Art Market.
A stunning example offered in excellent condition with normal wear associated with age and use. Minor scratch mark applied to the base of no significance.
