About the Item

This outstanding, bottle-shaped ceramic vase, crafted circa 1950, was designed by the renowned French ceramist Yvon Roy for Ateliers d'Art Montgolfier in Durtal, Anjou, France. Made of brown-glazed terracotta with a lustrous finish, this rare piece features a stylized floral motif incised in white, accentuated by soft blue-green tones. The lower section is adorned with horizontal linear patterns that harmoniously echo the same color palette, adding a subtle, refined detail.. The enamel surface reveals a captivating interplay of dark brown and blue-green hues in an organic, irregular pattern that enhances its artistic presence. A stunning work of art with striking decorative appeal, it is signed on the underside: Atelier Roy – Pièce Unique, Montgolfier. Measurements: 3.38 in diameter (8.5 cm) by 12.63 in high (32 cm). Reference: Yvon Roy was born in 1913 in Durtal, France. He began his career in the 1940s as an assistant to Pablo Picasso in his studio in Vallauris. In 1943, Yvon Roy (1913-1968) established a pottery workshop in Durtal, France, and launched his first tableware collections, which quickly became a benchmark. After Mr. Roy's accidental death, the Atelier d'Art was taken over by Robert de Montgolfier. The company is now known worldwide. Its famous square plates, the "Kyoto" range, are one of its flagship products. Bought in 2005 by Delphine Stroesser, Montgolfier is still based in Durtal. The "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (Living Heritage Company) label has confirmed the tradition of excellence that has always been the hallmark of this workshop.
