About the Item

Silversmith Asprey, London, designed this stunning Art Deco silver plate cocktail or Martini shaker. The cylindrical piece was expertly crafted in England circa 1920. This three-sectioned cocktail shaker has a removable cap and filter strainer. Asprey, London, is considered the crème de La crème and one of the finest silversmith companies in the world. The rare piece boasts a beautiful geometric form with a striped band around the strainer and the cap. The shaker is marked on the underside with the original legal silversmith hallmarks of Asprey London, confirming its authenticity and provenance. The item reference model is manually engraved on the bottom. Dimensions: 3.94 in diameter (10 cm) by 9.44 in high (24 cm). Reference: William Asprey founded the company in 1781. It was first headquartered in Mitcham, Surrey, before relocating to central London. From there, Asprey promoted "articles of exclusive design and high quality," whether for personal accompaniment or adornment or to add beauty and richness to the tables and homes of refined and discerning people. In 1862, Queen Victoria granted Asprey a Royal Warrant for his early specialty of dressing cases. Asprey received a gold medal for those cases at the International Exhibition that year. For Asprey, the 1920s and 1930s were a golden age. It adopted the new style, which was first introduced at the Paris Exposition de Arts Décoratifs in 1925 and is now known as "Art Deco," but was formerly known as "Moderne" or "Jazz Modern." Asprey's catalogs from this era are exquisite collections of high-end products, and its famous designs capture the fresh vitality and uniqueness of the times. Asprey embraced the cocktail era by producing distinctive, iconic, humorous barware pieces.
