The mark on the underneath (see image) indicates that this spittoon is of Japanese Imari porcelain, manufactured circa 1880, and made specifically for the American market for the preponderance of bars and saloons at that time. These were popular from 1865 to the turn of the century; this is a particularly fancy and elaborate example. Note the copious and highly detailed and beautiful floral decoration to the inside of the upper portion of the spittoon; pretty fancy for something meant for spit and saliva! Fantastic and all original condition with no cracks, no chips and very bright paint in sharp colors of blue rust and pink, and meticulously painted in a floral pattern. Several of these would have been “stationed” in strategic places within a saloon. This is a wonderful piece of porcelain, and quality item of saloon and Western United States history...

Chinese Export Porcelain Bacchus Mug After Derby Porcelain, Circa 1785. The Chinese Export porcelain mug is modeled after a Derby porcelain original as the head of Bacchus, the face naturalistically & delicately enameled. The eyebrows, beard and hair picked out with lightly etched brown lines. Around his head is a garland of vine leaves enameled in green, the veins of the leaves well delineated in grey, the bunches of grapes in a rich purple. The "C" shaped handle is decorated with stylized vine leaves, the sides of the thick handle with gold lappets. Dimensions: 4 inches high x 5 1/4 inches wide x 3 1/2 inches deep Reference This type of mug was copied directly from a Derby original that dates to around 1780-1785 and was created by William Duesbury II (1763-97) when the company was known as William Duesbury & Co. Antique Chinese Export Silver Bottle Coaster Circa 1900

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Chinese export silver bottle coaster, an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This exceptional antique Chinese Export Silver (CES) bottle coaster has a cylindrical form to a plain spreading base. The body of this Chinese silver coaster is embellished with fine and impressive embossed and pierced decoration depicting two iconic oriental dragons amidst clouds. The decoration to the body incorporates a sun motif to either side, each accented with a central cartouche, one remains vacant and the other bears the contemporary engraved monogram initials 'CHD.' The upper and lower rims of this coaster are encompassed with plain applied moulded borders accented with bands of tooled decoration. This exceptional coaster has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as sterling silver (925, 925/1000). Condition This antique Chinese silver coaster is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The Chinese hallmarks struck to the underside of this coaster are all very clear. Dimensions Diameter of rim 7.9cm/3.1". Diameter of base 8.4cm/3.3". Height 6.5cm/2.6". Weight 5.1 troy ounces/160g. Maker: Luen Wo. Date: circa 1900. Origin: Shanghai, China. Video: A video of this fine piece is available upon request.
