This impressive antique George V sterling silver bottle coaster has a plain cylindrical form to a domed spreading base. The body coaster is embellished with two broad bands of pierced scrolling leaf decoration, in addition to an applied moulded border to the upper rim. These exceptional contemporary cast sterling silver wine coasters have a circular rounded shaped form. The body of each coaster is embellished with an exceptional array of conjoined hippopotamus designs*, ranging in stances; the interior surface of this animal themed border bears details enhancing the anatomical features. These exceptional examples of animal related silverware retain the original fabric covering to the underside.
