About the Item

A wonderful set of three milk glass w. red dot, serving bowls. The bowls are in rather good condition for their age and use. No chips. Large is 9.5" diameter x 6" height Med. is 8.5" diameter x 5.25" height Small is 7.5" diameter x 4 5/8" height. Milk Glass was first produced in Venice, Italy in the 16th century, as a competitor to porcelain. It was produced in blue, pink, yellow, black, - white opaque glass was referd to "opal glass". The name milk glass is fairly recent. Made into decorative dinnerware, lamps, vases and also costume yewellery. Milk glass was vert popular during the "fin de siecle. Pieces made for the wealthy of the Gilded Age, are known for their delicacy and beauty in color and design. Depression glass pieces of the 1930 and 1940's less so.
