About the Item
An 18th Century Worcester Porcelain Shell Centrepiece, circa 1770, naturalistically modelled as six shells on a base of smaller shells and coral, painted with flower sprays within pink borders.
This porcelain centrepiece was made at the Worcester porcelain factory around 1770 with hand painted decoration. Such pieces were made by other factories at the time but the palette of the painting is particularly distinctive. The large cracks in the base occurred when the piece was originally fired showing the difficulty in producing such pieces at the time.
