About the Item
A striking and most elegant American 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu and Glass centerpiece. The centerpiece is raised by three beautifully scrolled supports with handsome paw feet and lovely interlocking geometric bands leading up to exceptional richly chased maidens in a superb satin and burnished finish, and centering a charming mottled reeded finial. Above are the original exquisite circular cut Glass vessel with wonderful lattice designed cuts and a beautiful palmette accented border.
The Mount Washington Glass Works, founded in 1837 in South Boston, became renowned after relocating to New Bedford, Massachusetts, where it produced innovative art glass like Burmese, Sicilian, and Lava glass. Merging with the Pairpoint Manufacturing Company in 1894, it evolved into the Pairpoint Corporation, famed for its reverse-painted lamps and luxury glassware, and continues today as America’s oldest operating glass company on Cape Cod.
